More info for those interested...

About Chai Lifeline:

Since 1987, Chai Lifeline's mission has been to restore the light of childhood to children whose innocence has been stolen by life-threatening or life-long illness.   Through programs that address the emotional, social and financial needs of seriously ill children and their families, Chai Lifeline intervenes to inject hope and laughter, childhood joy, to a child's life, and to restore "normalcy" to family life, helping families withstand, endure and, in many cases, overcome the MANY challenges of serious pediatric illness.

Chai Lifeline is truly a miraculous lifeline for thousands of children with life-threatening and lifelong illnesses  (many of whom are not as lucky as our Fred was in their struggle).

They're tag line is "Fighting Illness With Love" and their slogan is "Happiness Heals", and boy, do they walk their talk.

About Camp Simcha:

This particular fundraiser is to help send sick children to Camp Simcha, a wonderland of joy that uplifts the spirits of all who attend, no matter how sick they are.

Each summer, 430 seriously ill children are treated (free of cost) to an unforgettable, medically supervised overnight camp experience at Camp Simcha (for children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses) and Camp Simcha Special (for children with debilitating chronic conditions).

Here, children trade hospital rooms and doctors offices for a summer of fun, friendship and hope.

(Just  Google "Camp Simcha", watch any video and see the magic of Camp Simcha).

Our story:

As you may or may not know, this organization has touched our family in a profound and meaningful way.

In July of 2011, days before his 13th birthday, Freddie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgekins Lymphoma.   Needless to say this turned our lives, and more importantly, Freddie's life, upside down.   Freddie's days of carefree fun with friends or engaging life's little challenges like going to school and keeping up with his work and chores, turned into days of worry, fear, sickness, pain, loneliness, isolation and general darkness, as we fought for our son's life, and he fought to just be a kid.

Chai Lifeline intervened and uplifted Freddie and our whole family. They helped Sara and I with support and community for us as parents, support for Tuvia and Matan to cope with the dark cloud hanging over our family, and therapy for Fred.  More importantly, they brought joy, fun, wild abandon, play, light, hope, FRIENDS and childhood back to Freddie's life.

They took Fred on unbelievably fun outings and experiences and sent him to Camp Simcha, a place where they truly do Fight Illness With Love and where Happiness really does Heal.

Without Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha, we dont know where we, or Freddie, would be now.

We are so eager to give back that Sara ran 26.2 miles for them last year and we are both going to run 13.1 this year.

Please help us pay it forward by making it possible for more children like Freddie to go to camp.

Any amount helps get one kid closer to the summer of a lifetime and the gift of hope, laughter and joy.

Thank you, and may 2014 be filled with laughter and joy for you and your family!

Segev and Sara Perets
Team Fred
